CORE FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE JOB/PURPOSE:
The responsibility of this job is to use the latest technology and manufacturing standards set by the company to optimize both Plastic and Steel Plants. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the incumbent to control all Capital Expenditure Projects, modifications to Plant and Equipment for new products and the operational side of any acquisitions. Legal compliance such as O.H.S.A, Environment Standards is also the responsibility of the incumbent.
RESPONSIBILITY OF JOB:
PRODUCT & PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Optimize each production line to ensure maximum output at minimum cost and best quality, i.e. increase clip output per minute
Assess the factory and determine where Capital Expenditure is required to improve efficiencies and production.
Determine a capital expenditure budget and present costs and justifications to management for approval.
Manage the acquisition and implementation of all new equipment
Manage the implementation of manufacturing processes for all new products that production is required to manufacture.
Manage projects as and when requested by Management, i.e. new acquisitions, waste reduction and optimization.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTSL
Manage the OHSA requirements as appointed GMR2, as well as the environmental requirements for ISO 1400.
Chair the Health and Safety meetings and action the outstanding issues.
MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT:
Ensure machine availability of 90 % through the installing and controlling of proper maintenance systems.
Determine and present an annual maintenance budget to Management.
Manage and control the approved maintenance budget.
Assist with the implementation of a preventative and proactive maintenance system
Manage and control stockholding of all critical machine and tooling spares to ensure minimum downtime.
Plan and manage the December shutdown maintenance project.
Manage the human resource requirement for the Maintenance and Toolroom Departments.
Manage the daily tasks and activities of all artisans and assistants in the Maintenance and Toolroom Departments.
ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT:
Continuous optimization and improvement on production tools, equipment and machinery
Design, manufacture and qualify improved and new production tooling and processes
Design, manufacture and implement new production machinery.
Manage the Engineering Asset Register to ensure all tools and equipment are identified and kept in good order.
Ensure that all engineering drawings and manuals are safely kept according to correct drawing office procedures.
Record and compare monthly energy requirements to production output.
