Job Description:

The Diesel Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of diesel-powered vehicles, machinery, and equipment. This role requires hands-on technical expertise in diesel engines and associated systems, ensuring all machinery operates efficiently, safely, and in accordance with manufacturer standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform scheduled maintenance, servicing, and repairs on diesel engines and components

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals

• Overhaul and rebuild engines, gearboxes, and fuel systems

• Inspect and test mechanical units for proper function

• Maintain accurate service records and documentation

• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations

• Identify worn and faulty parts, ordering replacements where necessary

• Work on a variety of diesel-powered equipment including trucks, generators, construction or agricultural machinery

• Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians

• Keep tools and equipment in safe operating condition

• Respond to breakdowns and conduct on-site repairs when needed

Key Requirements:

• Matric (Grade 12) – essential

• Trade Test Certificate – Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Fitter – essential

• 3–5 years’ proven experience as a diesel mechanic or diesel engineer

• Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, transmissions, and fuel injection systems

• Ability to use diagnostic and testing equipment

• Excellent problem-solving and mechanical skills

• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks

• Valid driver’s licence (Code 8 or higher) – essential

• Good communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to work independently and under pressure

• Willingness to travel or work overtime/on-call, if required
